An example of a Press Release I wrote for a new Charity I have set up and I’m passionate about… It helped to gain lots of publicity for the Charity’s launch.

New Charity hopes to “EnRich” lives …

A new Charity has been set up in Barnsley in memory of Richard Tolson – “Rich T” – who was the Head of Music and Performing Arts at Barnsley College until his death last year. EnRich will support performing arts and creative arts activities in the town by offering small grants. Anyone studying or living in Barnsley can apply to the Charity to request support. Rich, who was posthumously awarded a “Pride of Barnsley Award”, died last September aged 40 after suffering from a rare cancer. At the time family and friends raised money to support MacMillan nurses and Barnsley Hospice who had helped him. In the longer term however his family and friends wanted his legacy to live on through his love of the Arts. Chair of Trustees Josie Whiteley, who was his Line Manager at the College, said: “Rich was a talented musician and he loved the Arts. It feels right to set up a charity in his memory which reflects that. “Obviously the money available to give as grants comes directly from charitable donations and fund-raising activities and we are hopeful this will continue as it has started”. In its first few days on Facebook EnRich gained more than 600 followers and offers of help and ideas for fund-raising are rolling in from friends, colleagues and ex-students. “We were very lucky to have a fantastic logo created for us by Phil Shaw whose wife Sarah saw our request for help on Facebook,” said Josie. Sarah had been a friend of Rich’s at school and Phil who has been a professional Graphic Designer for many years said his company “Number 23” would be honoured to create a logo. Sarah and Phil both grew up in Barnsley and attended Barnsley College. Sarah said: “I went to school with Richard. He was always a happy-go-lucky guy with a smile for everyone”. “To lose a husband, father, son must be just terrible. It is fantastic that this wonderful charity is being set up to honour a man who was amazing in life and whose legacy will live on through it and we are very glad we were able to offer our help.”
